I usually wait to be asked, but there is no reason not to ask if they mind if you sit in when they are between songs. They can see you there and they can see that you are holding an instrument case or instrument. If they tell you that they'd rather not have you join or if after a couple of songs they have not invited you in, then you should just move on.

By the way, I rarely have anyone just be rude or even refuse to let me join in. It has happened, but it is rare.

Best to ask... On the other hand our Texas friend Dana Hamilton once had a good time sitting in with what he thought was a jam session. It turned out to be a band playing for a wedding party. But they thought Dana was a hoot and kept him on.

Well its getting close to 10pm here (9 Central) I wanted to thank the hosts of this forum for having it. This was my first time here and I really enjoyed it.

Oh, thank you all for coming to the July forum!! I think this was our BEST one yet! Thank you all for your input, answers, and questions. Please feel free to continue posting if you would like.

That sounds like Dana. Of course he has the skills to pull that off plus the personality to gain acceptance. It must be nice....

This was a pretty good jam session. Perhaps one day we will have the technology to have a musical jam session via the internet.
